My concentration showcases the connection between the human body and mechanical objects that mimics humanistic functions. I gained the idea for this concentration when I learned surgical procedures through an internship. Mechanical parts are incorporated into the human body in surgeries to sustain regular body functions. The animate human body also resembles a complicated machine in many ways. I am fascinated with how mechanically the human body works and therefore explored the similarities in this concentration.
Each of my eleven pieces represent a body system and contains a mechanical analogy. I used a realistic approach when constructing my drawings. Hence, my drawings have an element of medical illustrations. The small systems are connected to form a complete body. My concentration overall not only demonstrate the link between mechanical parts and humanistic function, but also the connection between the eleven body systems.

My pieces showcase the relationship between human anatomy and the inanimate machines that have similar functions. These two pieces respectively represent the endocrine and respiratory system. My concept stayed constant and there is no new inspiration added. I used acrylic pencil and graphite. I will eventually add background colors after all the pieces are complete. Each piece shows a new body system and the machine that resembles it.

Fiona Ackerman I particularly like this painting because of its simple yet ordered formation of subjects. The artist selected a monochromatic color scheme and simple strippe patterns to illustrate branches in the forest. The choice of warm and less saturated colors provide the piece with a dream-like atmosphere. By looking at this painting, views are able to picture themselves strolling through this wonderous forest at dawn. This artwork evokes endless imagination. I intend to connect the different body system's function with machines and show the similarities between the living and inanimate subjects. I will also present a connection between the different systems. I will explore this idea through a 2D design portfolio.of 11 drawings and 1 photograph. I will use 11 paper with different dimensions to map out the different sections of the human body, and connect all the images together to form a complete person in the end.
In each piece, there will be a smaller rectangle or square [relative to the dimension of the paper] that is a pencil mechanical drawing. Body parts outside of the shape will show the anatomy of that body system, colored with prisma colors. The empty space around it will be colored with gouache or ink. I haven't decided if I should use a different background color for each piece or use one unified color yet. - What was the challenge project that you chose to do?
I chose "contain" as my theme. - Is the project complete? If not, why not? It is complete. - What do you think is successful in your project? I think the blending of colors and the details of the bones are successful. -What do you think could be improved, what did you struggle with? I struggle with anatomy accuracy and seeing the human body in another angle. I can improve on creating a greater contrast in the body to make the bones more obvious to the eye. Artist: James R Eads
He currently works at Brewery Arts in Los Angeles. He mainly uses paint and digital illustrations. His works are similar in that they all create a chaotic yet fantastic vibe. The works follow the themes of frenzy wonderland. Pinterest board link: https://www.pinterest.com/louiset4349/breath-ideas/ |
