"Unsolved Crime"
My work is inspired by crime scenes and dissection. I personified the bike as a dead victim that has been artistically murdered by a serial killer. Police outlined the shape of the body and put out "keep out" signs for people to beware. I hope readers can understand my personification and see the interesting factors in my piece. They would be able to interpret their own story from this piece. In order to understand the piece, the viewer need to know the allusions to the crime scene and have a good imagination. One significant artist choice I made is incorporating solid color and constant pattern into the smooth and coarse textured bike drawing. I made this to make the picture more interesting and cover more medium. One feedback I received during the process of the creation is "I am sure you can make something interesting". This feedback changed the whole piece. Initially I tried to make the bike look like a dog. Once the plan failed I decided to just leave it as an ordinary bike drawing. This feedback reminds me of the core rubric of the project: have a creative appeal. It is then that I got the idea of incorporating a crime scene into the piece. A challenge I had with this piece is with making the "keep out" signs. I need to first hand-letter, then paint the yellow background, and finally retouch on the black words. The progress is very tedious and repetitive, and the result is not perfect, but after dedication, the "keep out" signs enhanced the overall image greatly. My strength as an artist is my creative abilities. I can always think about innovative ideas and add interesting elements to my pieces. I always try to convey a message behind all my works, and only give small hints to allow multiple interpretations. One medium I learned using through this process is qouache paint. I learned the properties of the paint: quick-dry, less texture, but would become difficult to work with after a while. The paint is very useful in creating a smooth surface, but careful management is needed to have an amazing result,
