In the first image, I focused on the branch and left the sun in the center of the image, so it can shine a circular light into the lens and also create a frame at the edges. The branch looked like it is outlined by the sun, which I found very cool. The depth of field of this image is very shallow, making the branches the focus point of the image.
The second image is a self-portrait, with the light shining on the roof and lighting the gap. To take this picture I put a chair in front of the gap, staked more than ten books on there, then put my camera on all the books so the camera can be at the place where I want it to be. It took me more than ten pictures to get the lighting and pose correct. I have realized that the angle of the light is very hard to work with, so the picture still did not turn out as well as I wished; nevertheless this is an interesting place for a portrait, and the overall look is not too affected by the light. The third image is a picture of my friend. I intentionally kept the negative spaces around the figure, so the light would look more important in this image. My friend is wearing a black dress with a lot of white laces, which showed well in the image through the contrast between dark and light. The atmosphere of the image is elegant and pleasing to look at.
